Kate Shain-Wimer brings an exceptional blend of coaching leadership, elite playing experience, and sports medicine expertise to her role as Director of Female Hockey.
Shain-Wimer’s coaching experience includes the United States Air Force Academy Women’s Ice Hockey program from 2023–2025 as the team’s Goaltender Coach and Assistant Coach. Her previous collegiate coaching experience includes Assistant Coach for Chatham University’s Division III Women’s Ice Hockey program from 2006–2008. Additionally, she joins the Monument Rebels (formally Colorado Rampage) for her sixth season of 8U Mites hockey and second season as Assistant Coach at the 10U Squirt travel level, demonstrating a strong commitment to developing female athletes at all stages of the game.
As a player, Shain-Wimer was recruited by multiple collegiate programs from her AAA team in Airdrie, Alberta, and went on to play Division I Women’s Ice Hockey at the University of Connecticut as a scholarship athlete. She competed for all four years as a Husky, earning multiple accolades including selection to the Hockey East All-Star Team and the UConn All-Decade Team. Following her collegiate career, she continued playing professionally with the Calgary Oval X-Treme in the former National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL).
Professionally, Shain-Wimer is a Doctor of Physical Therapy with 18 years of experience in outpatient physical therapy and more recently specializing in orthopedic rehabilitation and performance-based care. She held the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) credential, allowing her to integrate injury prevention, performance training, and long-term athlete development into both her clinical practice and coaching philosophy.
Shain-Wimer’s combined experience as a coach, athlete, and medical professional uniquely positions her to support female hockey players’ development, performance, and long-term health both on and off the ice.
